Watercolour!

I had to do an update about my watercolour because I think I’m really making progress with it! I’ve been doing an online video course via Domestika with the fabulous Ana Santos who creates unique and gorgeous watercolour paintings and teaches it so well even a simpleton like me can understand!

Through her no-nonsense faff-free teaching, I’ve got much quicker while retaining accuracy in my sketching, and I was able to follow the last video of hers I watched really well.

The idea with this one is “wet on dry” painting, using quick, simple sweeps of the brush, building up with patches of colour from light to dark. I showed it to my friend and he suggested I use the same technique to do a picture of his cat, who I am utterly obsessed with. So I did, and here’s the result:

So as you can see, same technique. It’s far from perfect but I’m feeling quite proud of myself for being able to transfer what I’ve learned on to a new piece that I wasn’t talked through by a teacher. The housebound forest creature I have portrayed is a Maine Coon, and I think the features of her breed come through quite well!

By the way, if you’d like to see more of this cat, please check out my TikTok. I have updated my social media widgets including Instagram at the bottom of this page so you can follow me and my arty crafty endeavours there.

Do you like to watercolour? Please let me know in the comments, and I’d love to see your work!
